Starlink recently officially launched a new router, the Router Mini, which is now available in the company's store for $40. In addition, the price of the flagship Gen 3 Mesh Router has been reduced - it now costs $80, which is 33% less than in recent months. This is reported on the blog of Colby Baber DishyTech.
What is known about Router Mini?
The new Router Mini is a compact router with support for the WiFi 6 standard. Its dimensions are only 138 x 83.6 x 27 mm, which is comparable to a modern smartphone. The device is equipped with a dual-band WiFi module and is capable of providing coverage in an area of up to 110-120 m².
The case houses the WAN, LAN ports, power connector, and factory reset button. The Router Mini comes with a stand that can also be used as a wall mount. The front panel features the Starlink logo and an LED status indicator.
This router is not just a complement to the Starlink Mini antenna - it is compatible with most modern Starlink systems, both in wired and wireless mesh configurations. This makes the device useful in situations where you need to extend Wi-Fi coverage - for example, in remote rooms, basements, garages, etc.
Gen 3 Mesh Router: new price — $80
As part of its router lineup update, Starlink has slashed the price of its flagship Gen 3 Mesh Router. It was originally on sale for $199, but after its second price cut this year, it's now available for $80. It's a tri-band router with coverage of up to 300 m², and also supports Wi-Fi 6.
Gen 3 can act as the main router in a Starlink system or as an access point in a mesh network. With additional Wi-Fi range, it provides better stability and speed between routers in the network.
This router will be a great solution for large rooms or for upgrading outdated equipment. It is also relevant for users who need to simultaneously operate a large number of devices on the network.
What to consider when choosing a router
The Router Mini is a budget-friendly solution for smaller spaces or situations with lower network loads. The Gen 3 Mesh Router is a more powerful option with wider coverage, better features, and support for more devices.
Both options can be used in the same network if combined coverage is required in difficult conditions.
Why did Starlink lower the price of the Gen 3 Mesh Router?
According to DishyTech, one of the factors reducing the cost may be the transfer of production of Starlink accessories to Southeast Asian countries. While previously most routers were manufactured in the USA, new batches of Router Mini and Gen 3 are already being manufactured in Vietnam. This has reduced production costs and, accordingly, affected the final price for the consumer.
However, prices may change in the summer of 2025 - if the US continues its policy of raising tariffs on equipment imports from Vietnam, there is a possibility that this will cause prices to rise.
While the world is just getting to know the new product, we are already working on its review. Coming soon on the Adaptis website.
