The first Adaptis developments were created exclusively for military needs, where equipment is subjected to extreme tests every day. The main task was to transform a civilian terminal into a robust means of communication. To do this, it was necessary to completely rethink the design and adapt the device for use on the front line, where stable communication is needed every second.
"When Adaptis was being created, the issue at that moment wasn't that Starlink was bulky – we weren't thinking about civilian use, but military use. We looked at moisture resistance and making sure it was shockproof, for example, against shrapnel. At that time, we didn't pay attention to its (Ed. – Starlink's) weight or dimensions because we understood that people would mount it on military vehicles," explained Adaptis CEO Mykola Kalinichenko. "And this decision turned out to be strategically correct, as it was this engineering approach focused on maximum protection that created a solid foundation for all the company's future products."
Starlink itself was originally designed for private homes in remote regions where there is no connection. The appearance of Starlink in Ukraine was driven by the start of the full-scale invasion, and since then, its usage scenarios have expanded significantly: from working in the field to mounting it directly on vehicles. Because of this, Starlink requires additional protection regardless of where it is used.
Although the terminal has basic protection against rain or dust, it is vulnerable to blast waves, shrapnel, and direct hits. Furthermore, constant driving, dirt, vibrations, and bad weather gradually wear the device down and can cause it to fail at the most inopportune moment.
That is why we developed protective housings made of durable ABS plastic, which can be quickly and easily attached to vehicles using magnetic feet, and we also provided various power options – from vehicle onboard power systems to power banks or charging stations. Thanks to powerful neodymium magnets, the housing stays securely on the roof of a car or armored vehicle even while driving at high speeds or off-roading.
The reliability of Adaptis solutions is confirmed by real-life situations. A telling incident occurred in April of this year. An enemy "Shahed" drone hit the house of Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an advisor to the President of Ukraine on defense technology development. As a result of the impact, the building was severely damaged, but the terminal in the Adaptis case remained intact and continued to work. The protective housing took the full impact and melted slightly from the high temperature, but it completely preserved the device.
This incident demonstrated the most important thing: high-quality materials and a well-thought-out design are capable of saving equipment in extreme conditions.
