On the one hand, the technology is in high demand among civilians and is quickly becoming a network standard for aviation, the automotive industry, and maritime transport. On the other hand, the involvement of this very satellite infrastructure for military purposes directly depends on political decisions and diplomatic agreements at the highest level.

Ukraine seeks permission to use Starlink in Russia
Ukraine seeks to expand Starlink's capabilities for military purposes. The main goal is to obtain permission to use satellite communication for precise targeting of Ukrainian long-range drones at objects in Russia. This is necessary to destroy mobile ballistic missile launchers and command posts within 200 km of the border, which will help partially compensate for the shortage of missiles for Patriot systems. Currently, SpaceX only allows Starlink to be used in Ukraine, including Crimea and other temporarily occupied regions. Because of this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are forced to use drones with artificial intelligence systems for strikes deep into Russia. This targeting method is suitable for hitting large oil refineries but is less effective against small mobile targets.
To resolve this issue, Ukraine has engaged all diplomatic channels. During a meeting at the White House, Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Donald Trump to speak with Elon Musk about access to Starlink. Initially, Trump promised to discuss the issue with the SpaceX founder. However, according to the Financial Times, the US president later changed his position and refused to support Zelenskyy's request, making no commitments.
In parallel, Mykhailo Fedorov is engaged in direct dialogue with Musk. FT sources report that the businessman himself expressed readiness to allow the use of terminals on Ukrainian drones but emphasized that this is a political decision that entirely depends on the US administration.
Against the backdrop of these negotiations, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree awarding Elon Musk the Order of Liberty. The award ceremony resembles a diplomatic step intended to acknowledge previous assistance and promote further cooperation with SpaceX.
Starlink Integration in Tesla Robocabs
Tesla has for the first time demonstrated the official integration of a Starlink terminal into its vehicle – a two-seater Cybercab robocab. The new Starlink V5 terminal was directly built into the body structure under a special panel, making the antenna look like a roof element and not interfering with aerodynamics.
The Cybercab itself is controlled by an embedded onboard computer and artificial intelligence, so it does not use the internet for the driving process itself. Satellite communication serves as an additional backup channel for navigation, telematics data transmission for the fleet, and communication with support services, and also allows passengers to use high-speed internet. In addition, Elon Musk suggested that Starlink will appear in other vehicles in the future, calling it the only way to provide ultra-high bandwidth for billions of vehicles. Moreover, the golden color of the robocab inspired Ukrainian craftsmen: the Adaptis team created its own version of the Adaptis Premium case in the same shade, offering custom cases to match the client's car color.
SpaceX develops new router with Wi-Fi 7 support
The American regulator FCC has approved the release of a new SpaceX router under the marking UTR-261, which will be the successor to the Router Mini and the company's first device with Wi-Fi 7 standard support. The equipment is being developed with an eye to future updates of the satellite constellation for gigabit speeds. The router will have two Ethernet ports, USB-C, and PoE power support. The model will operate in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands without 6 GHz support, which may cause interference in dense urban Wi-Fi networks.
SpaceX has received official approval from the American regulator FCC (Federal Communications Commission) for the release of a new router called UTR-261. The device will be the direct successor to the Router Mini and will be the first router in the company's lineup to support the modern Wi-Fi 7 standard. The implementation of this technology will significantly reduce signal latency and increase data transfer speeds within the local network.
The development of new equipment is likely related to SpaceX's plans to update Starlink satellites. They will provide gigabit speeds, so older routers simply would not be able to handle such a volume of data and would limit internet speed.
New Starlink Plan – Personal Maritime
SpaceX has begun notifying its customers about the launch of the Personal Maritime tariff plan for $185 per month. This offer is currently not available on the official Starlink website — access to it is granted only to those customers whose terminals have been operating at sea for the past year.
The new tariff is designed specifically for owners of small private vessels who use them for long voyages between countries. Unlike the "Mobile Unlimited" tariff, which has a 30-day continuous usage limit outside the country of registration, Personal Maritime is created precisely to remove these time frames during long stays at sea.
This tariff is valid within 12 nautical miles from the shore (approximately 22.22 km). To go into the open sea, it is necessary to additionally activate the "Ocean" mode, which will cost $6 per gigabyte of data. The company emphasizes that the service is created exclusively for personal transport, so it is prohibited to use it on land, large yachts, or commercial vessels. Therefore, tariff activation occurs through customer support with the provision of additional documents, including those confirming the registration of the vessel.
Lufthansa Begins Equipping Aircraft Fleet with Starlink Internet
German airline Lufthansa has completed the first flight of an Airbus A320neo aircraft equipped with a Starlink terminal, which provides free internet access for passengers during flights across Europe. The modernization is carried out during scheduled maintenance without removing aircraft from service. By the end of 2026, the company plans to equip another 10 aircraft in its own fleet and its subsidiary Lufthansa City with Starlink, and by 2029, it plans to expand the technology to the entire combined Lufthansa Group fleet, which numbers about 850 aircraft (including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, and others).
